If we were to base the standard for commanding a submarine on the characters presented in the fantasy world of Jules Verne, one would find that in order to be considered for the position, a prospective buyer must be a reclusive genius, demented and/or sinister. Other popular depictions of the under-sea faring few follow a similar thread of characterization: the arch nemesis of a super spy, a grizzled Cold War veteran and Bill Murray. Due to the innovative work of U.S. Submarines, now the only requirement for a prospective buyer is that they have access to major dollars.
