Ahh…the tee box, it’s where it all begins. We’ve all stood there, huddled on this scrap of grass while someone casually flips the tee to see who will take honors. It’s the prime setting for all pre-drive pageantry: the gloating, the waggling, the jeering. Then, a hush settles and it’s time to show and prove. But, like clockwork all those 300-yard drives you so humbly boast about don’t make an appearance. And as you aimlessly scratch your head and squint your eyes, looking for your ball in flight, there it lies with just enough gas to make it past the forward tees. Contrary to your belief that a faster swing speed directly correlates to bombing your ball farther down the fairway, The Green Magazine’s three helpful tips will ensure those 10-20 extra yards off the tee are yours for the taking. This fall it’s time to put the short knocker to rest and let the big dog eat…or something like that.

I arrived in Morocco on an April morning after a long but pleasant flight from Qatar. As the terminal in Casablanca filled with the morning’s soft golden haze I felt as if I had traveled back in time. To be precise it felt like I had traveled back to the 1960s (or at least the version of the 1960s that existed in my mind after years of absorbing several archived portraits of pop culture, both conscious and unconsciously). The set up was compact and minimal with long hallways and low ceilings.
Jack Nicklaus once said, “I never went into a tournament or round of golf thinking I had to beat a certain player. I had to beat the golf course.” Yes, beat the golf course. It’s a simple, reoccurring phrase many choose to toss around, unlike Nicklaus, as some philosophical one-liner, showcasing the depth of their mental aptitude. The command is straightforward: scope the land, see the shot and execute.
It’s difficult to describe how impressed I was by Liberty National. I got to play the kind of golf course I dreamed of as kid. Every single detail was taken into account so that my experience was extraordinary. The views of the New York City Skyline from the course and clubhouse are spectacular. The clubhouse cuisine rivals any top restaurant in the country and the amenities are to die for. The locker room is just phenomenal and the steam room is almost a football field in length.
