Owens on Owens

Terrell Owens finally sits down and opens up to the person who knows him best-himself.

The problem child stigma that follows Owens from team-to-team solely occurs on the 100-yard stage. Compared to the recent extracurricular incidents NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has had to address, Owens is the least of his concerns. It’s a slim to none chance that the headlines will report Owens taking $100,000 in cash to a strip club in an effort to “make it rain”, accidentally discharging his loaded gun into his thigh in the VIP section or lying about his involvement in an illegal dog fighting ring. Staying out of trouble is more than just a smart public relations move for Owens—it’s the standard.

Diving & Driving

I have two outdoors passions—a longtime love of scuba diving and a newfound penchant for golf. And as fall temperatures began to dip below my idea of perfect golfing conditions, I knew it was only a matter of time before my excursions would be limited a number of four-walled confines.

A Disorderly Compendium Of Golf By: Lorne Rubenstein and Jeff Neuman All of golf’s quirky anecdotes, lists and urban myths have made the cut in Rubenstein and Neuman’s informative, yet entertaining compilation. Off The Beaten Cart Path: Uncovering the Stories of America’s Little

Cameroon: The Gem of West Africa

A look beyond the political, health and economic hardships that so often bring Africa to media attention reveals a burgeoning continent teaming with potential in the economic, professional and natural resource sectors.

Roaming Through Chile: Five Impressions

Arica Bound in the Atacama Desert: Northern Chile Barreling down the Andes onboard an Arica bound bus then cutting through the vast Mars-like Atacama Desert in Northern Chile has a strange way of setting all things man-made into the foreground. When a large rock is moved, or a ditch is dug

Sacred Soil

Golf is a game founded on just principles—integrity, to call a penalty on yourself when no one is watching—graciousness, even in defeat and courage to risk losing everything or gain it all in one stroke.

Dining in the Dark

More times than not, when the word ‘surprise’ is attached to an entree or recipe, the chance of it becoming one of your all-time favorites is slim to none.

Drills: How To Shape Your Shots

Golf isn’t simple. In a perfect world, each hole would consist of the linear, tee-to-green scenario. But, who would play such a monotonous game? In the real world players face holes with intimidating hazards, obtrusive tree-lines and severe dog-legs that require shots with a bit of ingenuity.

The Minority Report: Volume II

A generation or two before Tiger Woods arrived, golf had a homespun jobs program that ushered minority players—such as, Lee Elder, Charlie Sifford, Calvin Peete, Jim Thorpe and Jim Dent—onto the golf course without the help of committees, foundations or organizations.

Other Equipment

Canon EOS 7D Photography is process. One of visualization and execution that eventually leads to translating an idea or emotion into something tangible. Developing negatives in a secluded dark room is far from obsolete, but fair to say a method of the past.

E.P. Carrillo Edición Inaugural

Some cigars sharpen your focus with a smoke that offers you the time and inclination to ponder and strategize. Others take you away, lightening your load with aromas and flavors that have been the bedrock of Latin American camaraderie for centuries.

The Dalmore

Here’s a jewel the teetotaler’s will never understand: When sipped judiciously, in the right place at the right time, a subtly blended spirit can make you a better man. Plain and simple!

Above The Clouds

Millennia before President Kennedy’s campaign to beat the Russians to the final frontier culminated in Neil Armstrong’s footprint on the moon’s cratered-surface, the Dogon mapped out the solar system.

"The All Black King"

What do Ralph Ellison, the mid-century master of African-American letters, and the horological engineers at Hublot have in common? An unparalleled grasp of the power of invisibile visibility. Subtlety, layering, and understated genius are all hallmarks of this seemingly contradictory notion.

We Hooked Another One

Beginning to play golf was sort of like playing saxophone for the first time—being out there all alone, me and the sax and me and the green. When you’re playing saxophone on stage it’s a do or die situation and the it’s same with golf.

Clubs: A Striking Approach

The age-old battle between golf course designer and player is one of attack and defense. In one corner the architect scours the land to mold courses that challenge, reward and remain a testament to their creator for generations.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport

With each passing day it seems as though the hard truth is harder and harder to come by. So here’s a crisp jab to the heart of all automotive dissembling: He who owns the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport sits behind the wheel of the world’s fastest street legal convertible.

The Devil-Made Liquid

Few spirits carry so great a stigma as Absinthe.

True visionaries are often considered unorthodox. Michael Burton is no different. “When I go into a hotel or restaurant, I look at everything,” Burton says.

How did you begin fencing? I started fencing when I was nine-years-old. I’m a native New Yorker. I grew up in Freeport, Long Island and I got involved in the sport by chance.

It’s that time of the year again. No, I’m not talking about figuring out your gift list or deciding which holiday parties you plan to attend.
