Caribbean Classic Golf Invitational Donates Computers to Jamaican Schools
Late last fall 36 jamaican primary schools received brand new Dell computers donated to their schools’ technology learning centers from the Caribbean Classic Golf Invitational and the risarc Foundation. Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding emphasized the importance of using computer technology to improve lesson delivery and said that more needs to be done to get computers in schools. During that same time, the Cabinet approved a contract to equip all the public libraries across the island with Internet access.
“We recognize the impact of computers and the benefit it will have to prepare the children to be globally competitive. We are pleased that this second shipment of computers will be used by the children to access the world beyond Jamaica and as a tool for learning,” said Richard Stephenson, President of ccgi and the risarc Foundation. Other dignitaries in attendance included u.s. Ambassador Brenda LaGrange Johnson, Minister of Education Andrew Holness and Minister of Transport and Works Mike Henry.
“We appreciate the support that we have received and look forward to the continued partnership with the sponsors and supporters until every primary school in Jamaica has a technology learning center,” said Alsion Roach, Executive Director of ccgi Foundation. Among the supporters were Norman McDonald of CanCo Ltd., Jamie Chang and Leslie Chang of Surrey Paving and Construction, Ryland Campbell of Capital & Credit Merchant Bank, Glen Christian of Cari-Med, Lance James of Express Pharmacy, Christopher Floyd and Nigel Davy of S&D Electromechanical Engineers, the Tourism Product Development Company, the Tourism Enhancement Fund, and the Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago.
Going forward, sponsors and golfers are invited to join ccgi for the 4th Annual ccgi Celebrity Golf Tournament and Charity Event in Montego Bay, Jamaica this summer from June 19–22. For more information visit www.caribbeangolfclassic.org.
